We collect the following information when you use Vellum: your email address and authentication credentials, essay content you submit for analysis, school selections and application details, and payment information processed through Stripe. We also collect basic usage data such as analysis history and credit balance.

2. How We Use Your Data

Your data is used to provide essay analysis, manage your account, process payments, and improve the quality of our service. Essay content is sent to AI models for analysis and is not used to train third-party AI models. We do not sell your personal data to any third party.

3. Third-Party Services

Vellum uses the following third-party services to operate: Supabase for authentication and data storage, Stripe for payment processing, and Google Gemini for AI-powered essay analysis. Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data necessary for each service to function.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account data and analysis history for as long as your account is active. Essay content submitted for analysis is stored to allow you to review past results. When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed within 30 days.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to delete your account and all associated data at any time. You may request an export of your data by contacting us. If you are located in a jurisdiction with additional data protection rights (such as the EU or California), those rights apply in addition to what is described here.

6. Cookies

Vellum uses minimal cookies, limited to authentication and session management. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.
